Effective affiliate marketing and efficient tracking are synonymous with each other. Tracking enriches performance by enabling publishers to track transactions, identify the best-performing products and understand the customer journey.

Since affilinet was founded, our 30-strong development team have been continually developing our proprietary technology and tracking platform to reflect the evolving business needs of both our advertisers and affiliates. The state of the art system supports real-time tracking of all sales and leads to ensure that publishers are fairly rewarded for their efforts and paid promptly.

Tracking with cookies is the most common and reliable form of tracking used in affiliate marketing. This means a cookie is dropped on every user's device once they've viewed an ad, and if they go on to complete an action such as a purchase on the advertisers site, even after a prolonged period, the cookie is able to attribute the completed sale to the appropriate publisher. Other methods exist that don't use cookies, and these can be seen in the drop-downs below.

But although this all might sound quite complex, even publishers with limited programming skills will find the tracking technology easy to integrate - it's as simple as copying (the code from the affilinet platform) and pasting (into the source text on the relevant website).

Standard Tracking

Simply select an ad format from the affilinet interface and copy the ad ID code to your website. This contains the tracking code, which tracks whether a website visitor views, clicks and/or buys. The process is as follows:

Customer views ad

The Internet user visits the publisher website. As soon as the ad is displayed, a cookie is dropped in a file on the visitor's computer. This contains the publisher ID, advertiser ID and the number of the ad, but no consumer personal data. You can use the affilinet interface to monitor and track impressions and see which adverts have been viewed on which website.

Customer clicks ad

A customer click is immediately registered on the affilinet interface and is immediately redirected to the advertiser website. The existing affilinet cookie is updated with additional information, such as a the time of the click.

Customer completes purchase or registers

If the visitor then goes completes a purchase on the advertiser website or perform another action (such as registering to receive more information) this is registered on the affilinet interface, which will then determine where the user came from (i.e. which publisher and website) and the time of the click from the tracking cookie on the computer of the user. On completion of the transaction, the advertiser site forwards information to the affilinet interface specifying the level of commission to be paid to the publisher and other parameters, such as the order number and payment model used.

Publisher receives payment

The publishers that drive traffic the to the advertisers' websites are paid for completed transactions, which, depending on the agreed payment model, may include leads, referrals or sales. The action is confirmed by the advertiser, according to the terms agreed such as on expiry of the cancellation or returns period.

Publisher account credited with commission for transaction

Regardless of the payment model agreed with the advertiser - Pay per Sale, Pay per Lead or Pay per Click - our network ensures an accurate and reliable tracking process and subsequently. affilinet are the only network to pay affiliates for approved sales or leads, whether payment has been received from an advertiser or not.

Mobile Tracking

affilinet supports tracking on mobile sites provided that the tracking pixel code is in place, making it easier for you to take advantage of the mobile channel to drive sales.
